Zutari partnered with the State of Qatar to provide all engineering services and construction supervision for the Qatar Pavilion at Dubai Expo 2020. With only a few months to complete the ambitious project, the team embraced a collaborative and agile approach to meet the deadline without compromising on quality or innovation.

The opportunity

The Pavilion needed to be designed and built in record time, requiring seamless coordination between four partners across multiple global locations. The challenge was not only the tight timeline but also the complexity of delivering a high-quality, Expo-standard structure under pressure.

What we did

Zutari piloted its bespoke Design and Build strategy, which focused on digital workflows and early engagement with subcontractors and suppliers to streamline procurement. The team used cloud-based Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools to coordinate design and construction across disciplines and geographies.

This digital-first approach enabled:

  • Real-time collaboration across global teams

  • Rapid decision-making and design iteration

  • Clear communication of construction details and interfaces

  • Efficient supervision and delivery of the Pavilion

The non-traditional methodology set a new benchmark for Design and Build collaboration in the Middle East.

The outcome

The Pavilion was successfully delivered on time and within budget, showcasing what can be achieved through trust, collaboration and smart digital planning. It demonstrated the power of non-linear strategies and agile workflows in high-pressure environments.

The Qatar Pavilion stands as a testament to what is possible when collaboration, innovation and digital technology converge. Zutari’s approach not only ensured the success of this project but continues to influence how Design and Build projects are delivered across the region.

“Qatar showcased what people can achieve when working towards the same goal; implementing non-linear strategies and very productive methodologies to deliver on time, keeping a close eye on quality and budget.”
